July 2025 News - Ba Gua Zhang 5 week special

We are excited to announce a special 5 week course of Ba Gua Zhang during July and August. The classes will be led by Keith Simpson of our cherished Internal Intent school and will cover the Liang Zhen Pu lineage Ba Gua Nei Gong practices, Mother Palms, and time permitting single palm changes.

The course is suitable for all levels and starts at Exeter Street Hall (near 7 Dials) on Monday 7th July 7.00-9.00pm. It will run every Monday at the same time for 5 weeks with the last session on Monday 4th August.

Our regular classes operate on a rolling syllabus with the aim to always push those who are regular attendees whilst remaining open to all who are curious, with or without previous experience.

In Memoriam - Jerry Burchett

Jerry, a much loved former member and teacher of this club sadly and suddenly passed away on January 31st 2025. His life was in a great place, and he was doing something he loved; it seems he may have been racing up a hill on his bike trying to beat his personal best and suffered a heart attack. He went too soon, and will be missed by all who had the privilege to train with him. Amongst many things we will always remember him for his teaching of the Chen Style Sword form. He was a great man with a sharp mind, a dry and self deprecating sense of humour, and a heart full of generosity.

RIP Jerry

Our Guiding Ideas

Protection of life unites the martial and health strands of the internal martial arts of China; Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Xing Yi and Ba Gua are collectively known as the 'Internal Family' or Nei Jia. The Daoist roots of these arts expands the aim from the protection of your life, and that of others, to the protection of all that is natural, the web of life that supports us. Join a Wu Kong class to dip your toe into these ancient ways of life protection.

The club name Wu Kong comes from “Journey to the West”, one of the most famous and loved stories in China. In it, Wu Kong (the monkey king) has got into trouble with the gods for stealing the secrets of immortality. The gods will encase him in rock unless he protects a Buddhist monk on a Journey to India. Their mission is to bring sacred scrolls of knowledge back to China. Fast forward to our Tai Chi & Qi Gong school and Wu Kong is journeying west again to return the knowledge contained in the scrolls. In learning and holding these Nei Jia arts, you are taking part in that return of knowledge from East to West.
